About

Black and white studio portrait of Mohammadreza Mehran Jalil

My professional experience began in business: in markets, distribution networks, customer service and decisions whose value had to become visible in practice. I joined Behran Oil in 2003 and worked across commercial management, business development, marketing and sales. Over time, these responsibilities brought one question into sharper focus: what connects an organisation’s beliefs with what it says and what it actually does?

For me, that question leads to brand. I understand a brand as an intersubjective presence, formed through shared memory, interpretation and experience. Meaning matters, but it must be sustained by values and conduct. My approach therefore begins with understanding the business: its worldview, capabilities, responsibilities and the differences it can credibly maintain. Verbal and visual identity give expression to that understanding; the customer experience must give it substance.

Working in distribution and services made the distance between promise and delivery tangible. Subsequent experience in different sectors reinforced the importance of context. A framework is useful only when it helps explain the problem at hand. I am interested in listening carefully, testing assumptions and connecting a clear point of view with decisions that the organisation can implement and stand behind.

My education in supply chain management, philosophy, and brand and marketing has brought complementary perspectives to this work. Management directs attention to execution; philosophy to the assumptions and consequences of a choice; brand practice to the relationship between those choices and people’s experience. Systems thinking, strategic foresight and problem-solving remain important influences on how I approach a brief.

This is a place for considered writing, an explanation of my approach and conversations about brand challenges. I want it to make the relationship between reflection and practice visible, while leaving room for questions, disagreement and revision.

The relationship between this thinking and practice is developed in Brand Philosophy, Brand Identity and B2B & Corporate Branding.
